Pilot Research on Machine Learning-driven Mainshock Prediction for Earthquake Precaution
In recent months, Bangladesh has faced a surge in seismic activity, highlighting the urgent need for better earthquake preparedness. Our pilot research explores whether machine learning can identify mainshocks from historical global earthquake data. By engineering temporal and spatial features and applying gradient-boosting models, we demonstrate that predictive signals exist in seismic events, laying the foundation for data-driven early-warning systems and safer communities.
